All of the designs come “with focuses that span across natural wearable makeup, desirable trends, bold and vibrant looks, playful exotic designs, looks for the risk-takers, and of course the iconic, timeless beauty that MAC is known for.” All of the 12 designs offered for the game were all created from scratch. When asked about how he came up with the makeup looks, Jennings explained that as an artist, he was inspired by “just about everything” and it was the same for this game. Talking further about the collaboration, the partnership was clear from the beginning given that “MAC consumers love entering fantastical worlds where they can express themselves” while Sims players “love creating makeup looks.” However, he said he is now “hooked” and in fact enjoys “living and gardening” in the virtual world. Jennings revealed that while he was familiar with The Sims 4, he hasn’t played it before working on the project. According to Jennings, the two brands “both empower out communities to be themselves and express themselves however they wish.” This connection is one of the reasons why the two brand wanted to collaborate with each other. Talking about make-up, Jennings said that he “love the art of makeup and allowing myself to self-inspire as I choose colors to mix and customize looks.” He said further that once makeup is involved, there is an added emotional connection. Peterson went on to say that the team at The Sims is “excited to share these fantastic looks with our players and see the Sims they create.”
She added that it was “a joy to collaborate with Romero and the MAC team.” Romero refers to MAC Director of Makeup Artistry Romero Jennings. MAC Cosmetics released a nine-shade eye-shadow palette inspired by the Sims video-game franchise on Monday. In a statement, The Sims producer Dana Peterson said that the brand identities of the two worked well together and this is seen in the current partnership. In the wake of the latest controversy around MAC Cosmetics x The Sims, some prominent EA Game Changers and YouTubers pointed out that these kind of wobbles aren’t something the franchise can afford much longer.Through this partnership with MAC, The Sims 4 hopes to give everyone the chance to transform themselves into who they want to be or give them the freedom to try something new. The Sims 4 redeemed itself somewhat with the release of its tenth expansion pack, Snowy Escape, but the player base has been frequently irked by the direction taken by EA.
Some of the DLC released by the franchise didn’t go down too well – with the branded Star Wars pack being a particular bugbear for many. Much like everyone in the real world, The Sims 4 had a challenging year in 2020. While an official release date is yet to be announced, the game has already garnered a loyal following. While The Sims has been the dominant simulation franchise for well-over 20 years, there is emerging competition in development with the most notable being Paralives. Fast forward to January 2021, and the collaboration popped into real life with MAC Cosmetics releasing a special edition The Sims Eye Shadow Palette for 32 USD.
